Straylands Nursery

The ethos at Straylands is to provide a ‘happy and stimulating’ environment where children will progress and develop to the best of their abilities.  One of our main assets is having a smaller group, we limit ourselves to 22 children per day, which enables us to provide more personal attention, promote confidence and offer parents and children the very best in child care and education.

Straylands is registered by OFSTED and care for children from 0 to 5 years. We have built an excellent reputation over the last 20 years by providing a service to many parents, who are happy to know that they can leave their child safe, contented, secure and cared for in a homely yet stimulating environment. Our philosophy at Straylands is to ensure that:

‘Learning and development is fun’

Our Olympics

The nursery is not part of a chain or large group but is privately owned by Jayne Benn and Tracy Gowlett and has been since opening in January 1992. Both owners are qualified to Degree level in Childcare and Education.

Our Garden

We have a large, soft play surfaced, outside area, including a separate baby area, at the back of the nursery consisting of a variety of outdoor equipment and resources.

We offer free flow play at Straylands where the children can access the garden for most of the day and choose to play inside or outside.

I've used Straylands nursery for both my children (from 6 mths and 9 mths old) when I returned to full-time work and I recommend it strongly. I highly rate the staff for their care and support of the children and their needs (not just physical but emotional too). The home-cooked food (and variety) is especially reassuring. The activities are really varied and stimulating and there is always lots of outdoor play. Straylands really does have homely feel about it which is why I think both my children have loved their time there.

From day 1 Straylands has been fantastic for my son and I. It has a really friendly, warm and homey feel. The staff are amazing and know all the children really well. The space is well used and there is plenty for all the kids in and out which is maximised throughout the day so the children can go outside if they prefer which is great for my son. The staff provide an excellent learning environment to stimulate and challenge with a variety of activities. Learning and achievement is monitored daily and is well recorded. The staff always find out about my son before I leave so they can adapt to him and I always receive a detailed account of my son and how he has been through the day. Straylands support the parents in continuing personal routines such as potty training and discipline etc and advice and support is often shared. The nursery has been able to offer the flexibility I have needed which has been brilliant. They are always giving the children a full and varied learning environment and have been on several trips out of the nursery including Railway museum, local farms and the Yorkshire Wildlife Park all with great success. Safety is a key feature which all staff follow. The food is home cooked on a daily basis and smells amazing. I have been very happy with Straylands Nursery. My son loves his nursery and knows all the staff and children as it is not too big. My son and I feel part of an extended family at Straylands and I am confident leaving my son knowing he will receive the best care.
